2014 AND BLACK MOON 2014
2013 proved to be a challenging year for me. Despite the highlight of having Sebastian in April, I was presented with a host of post partum complications that landed me in the hospital multiple times for varying stays. The shortest being a couple of days and the longest, a month. Now that I'm medicated, I hope these episodes will reduce and that I get some of my vim and vigor back! (In case you were wondering, it's also why there was no Yule update. It's hard to compose perfume and not have access to my studio!)
So you'll forgive me if I'm a tad boisterous in wishing you a wonderful 2014! I'm excited for what this year will bring. I'm no fool - I'm not going to tempt fate and say that it couldn't get any worse than 2013 (because it can!) So I'd like to set the intention of 2014 to one of healing. And tonight's super new moon in Capricorn will set the tone for the internal magick that needs to take place if we're to heal ourselves, our relationships, our planet, our politics, our country (where ever you are), or our cosmos. It's a mighty undertaking that begins inside and from there, extends out reverberating infinite and eternal.
Happy 2014. Let's make this one count.

Under the influence of Capricorn, it's an ambitious time for new beginnings, building confidence, order, patience, prosperity, responsibility, stability, success and the willpower to bring about manifestation.
Dark lunar oils of black patchouli, benzoin and seared vanilla are expertly blended with oils under Capricorn's spell: opuim poppy, magnolia and yew. The fragrance is then empowered with Purifoy flower essences* of trillium, fairy lantern and pungent desert parsley.

THE BOOK OF HALLOWE'EN - HALLOWS 2013
At long last! Hallows 2013 is LIVE and ENORMOUS at Conjure Oils! It's the time of year that I most look forward to creating and because of that I sometimes often let my inherent perfectionism get the better of me! But like Alfred E. Newman, I don't worry because I think, and I hope you do as well, that it's worth the wait. Truly, you're getting my very best and strongest work in exchange for the few extra days it takes for me to polish the collection until it's sparkling!
This year, I've taken my inspiration from The Book of Hallowe'en, written by Ruth E. Kelley, published in 1919. It is a fascinating little tome that covers the history of the holiday dating back to the sun worshipping Druids leading up to the observation of the holiday as it was celebrated at the turn of the last century! I'm sure that you'll find this year's Hallows update to be poetic, quirky, whimsical and steeped in Victoriana - just as you've come to expect from Conjure!
SHIPPING
Because we're getting Hallows off with a bit of a late start this year, know that all Hallows orders placed will be shipped within FIVE business days, so you can enjoy your seasonal sniffies in a timely fashion! HALLOWS RESURRECTED 2013
Kwaidan is a collection of stories written in 1904 by Lafcadio Hearn shortly before his demise. To say he was a Japanophile is a bit of an understatement, as he has written volume after volume on the mythology and spirituality of Japanese culture at the turn of the century.
Like the 1965 eponymous film based on the work of Hearn, we've selected four stories to give you a glimpse into the demons and ghosts that haunt the land of the rising sun and to send a chill down your spine in the process! Some of the stories can be on the long side. Grab a cup of tea (or sake!) and settle in for a thrill. I guarantee it will be worth your time!

THE AUGUST ASSEMBLY
Everywhere above the tombs, the fires of the dead were burning, like candles.
Fierce and ghostly: Conjure Oils' own crimson dragon's blood accord, clove, ginger and cassia are softened with Japanese red musk, red mandarin and luminous white tea.
THE BATTLE AT DAN-NO-URA
Hoichi lifted up his voice, and chanted the chant of the fight on the bitter sea,--wonderfully making his biwa to sound like the straining of oars and the rushing of ships, the whirr and the hissing of arrows, the shouting and trampling of men, the crashing of steel upon helmets, the plunging of slain in the flood.
Black and starless skies coupled with turbulent and bloodied waters: Bruised musk, dried black currant, antiqued patchouli, murky gray amber, maritime juniper, bois de rose and the tormented memories of blood soaked metal, fathomless grief and boundless loss.
MIMI-NASHI-HOICHI
From the time of his adventure, he was known only by the appellation of Mimi-nashi-Hoichi: "Hoichi-the-Earless." A blind man famed for his skill in recitation and in playing upon the biwa. It is said that when he sang even the goblins [kijin] could not refrain from tears.
The fading scent of a summer night thick with the tricks of demonic forces: Hoichi sits in silent meditation surrounded by the fragrance of an ancient moribund garden at the season's end. A spectral osmanthus blossom is carried crisply on the night air accompanied by the crumbling of Japanese maple leaves crunching under the ghostly samurai's foot as he draws near. The polished teak wood biwa rests silently next to Hoichi, reflecting the glow of the last firefly as the black inky musk of inscribed prayers is lifted heavenward propelled by fear and the body heat generated by Hoichi's trembling heart. The cold metallic tang of blood congealing on Hoicihi's head completes this ghostly portrait.
ONI BI
The Demon Fires

JIKININKI
I have been obliged to feed upon the corpses of the people who die in this district: every one of them I must devour in the way that you saw last night.

THE RUINOUS ANJITSU
On the top of a hill lighted by the last rays of the sun, one of those little hermitages, called anjitsu, which are built for solitary priests.

AN ITINERANT SOBA-SELLER
Was it anything like THIS that she showed you?" cried the soba-man, stroking his own face--which therewith became like unto an Egg.

MUJINA
Then that O-jochu turned around, and dropped her sleeve, and stroked her face with her hand;--and the man saw that she had no eyes or nose or mouth!

WEEPING AT THE MOAT
A woman crouching by the moat, all alone, and weeping bitterly.

In a village of Musashi Province, there lived two woodcutters: Mosaku and Minokichi.
Mahogany, Mirabelle plum, red amber, golden sandalwood, smoked patchouli and sugared pomegranate.
O-YUKI
Even as she screamed, her voice became thin, like a crying of wind;--then she melted into a bright white mist that spired to the roof-beams, and shuddered away through the smoke-hold... Never again was she seen.

YUKI-ONNA
The white woman bent down over him, lower and lower, until her face almost touched him; and he saw that she was very beautiful,--though her eyes made him afraid.

Resurrected for 2013
It seems that the end of October and early November is the time of year where many cultures have holy days honoring death. From Los Dias de los Muertos to Samhain tide this has been the season to honor, revere and even celebrate the role death has in our lives. Using three works of art as inspiration, we are offering a trilogy of fragrances to pay tribute to the ancestors, to show respect for the power of the spirit of Iku (Yoruban personification of Death) and to the metaphysical associations that are part and parcel to the concept: transitions, inevitable change and destruction that clears the way to creation. Maferefun Oya, Kali, Hecate, Set, Baron Samedi and the Ghede, Egun, Yewa and all other spirits who work and exist in such a nebulous and liminal space fraught with a spectrum of human emotion: from the depths of suffering and grief stemming from senseless and tragic loss to the heights of grace and light embedded in those moments where death is a release from pain and an ascension into the Great Mystery.

SIX YEARS?!? Wow.
That means if Conjure were a child, it would be a very fragrant first grader!
In all seriousness though, these past six years have been so many things: amazing, scary, wonderful, terrifying, encouraging, educational, silly, serious, seriously freaky and mostly fun!
Six years ago, I was just a little Iyawo fresh off the mat with nothing more than a book of formulas, ideas and dreams, a crate of oils, a heart filled with passion and a directive from Oshun to make perfumes for the people. Six years later, I have over a thousand formulas, enough components to fill a small aircraft hangar, and more heart and passion that you can shake a stick at. I also have love. Which when it comes down to it, that's the best part: my sweet three year old daughter Miss Lucy, my little ginger baby Sebastian, my accomplice Sterling and each and every one of you. Some of you have been with me from the very beginning (*waves at Valna, my first customer*) some of you are new to the Conjureverse, but you are all precious to me. And it's more than because you spend money here. It's WAY more than that. It's the friendships that have been forged, the connections made. Things have never been golden for this business. SOL NIGER In the alchemical Great Work, or Magnum Opus dating back to the first century, Sol Niger (the Black Sun) is the first phase in the physical and spiritual transmutation that creates the Philosopher's Stone and leads one on a journey to individuation. In stage one, we're met with putrefaction and decomposition. Carl Jung attributed this stage two distinct psychological states.
In the first state, we have unio naturalis, a state of imbeddedness where the ego is enmeshed with its surroundings. Here there is no separation between the self and the other. "Ignorance is bliss" is a good way to describe this realm.
In the next state, nigredo or the blackening, we find the dark night of the soul where one becomes acutely, painfully aware of the separation between the self and the other. This gives rise to the recognition of the shadow self and the chaos and melancholy that comes with it.
However, all is not lost to despair! This darkness gives way to the next stage, albedo, the light at the end of the tunnel and the ascent from the depths of darkness. But that is another Sol for another day...
On June 23, we were treated to the magick of a super moon! As she travels in her elliptical journey around the earth, there is a point in the moon's orbit where she is closest to the earth, or perigee. To those of us admiring the moon from earth during this time, she appears 14% larger and 30% brighter, the tides are at their highest and with the human body being approximately 60% water, one can only imagine the influence the lunar tides have over us all!
Thirteen essences sacred to the moon were used to craft this fragrance. It can be described as a mysterious lunar philtre that is as invigorating as the night air and enchanting as a moonlit dance. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND ! Celebrate Fat Tuesday Conjure style with our NINE Polish pastry inspired perfume oils! Growing up in Southeastern Michigan like I did, it wasn't hard to find a box of these delectable sweet treats! For those who don't know what a paczki is, (pronounced "poonchky") it's like a large huge doughnut stuffed to the brim with various intoxicatingly sweet fillings ranging from traditional plum and rose hip jam to more modern conventions like Bavarian custard, apple or raspberry. Though it's no typical doughnut - the paczki is sweeter and spongier. They can be topped with powdered or granulated sugar, or with icing. Truly, the mortal doughnut pales in comparison!

SELECTIONS FROM THE BOOK OF LOVE - LUPERTINE 2013
Sometimes we lack the words to express the depth or essence of what is thought or felt so very deep within our souls. We string together strands of nouns, adjectives and verbs hoping for just the right sequence to express the secrets buried in our hearts. We imagine songs and poetry or visual art in an attempt at a melodic, abstract or symbolic explanation.
Language is the art of the tongue acting in concert with the heart and mind. Some languages are clumsy in their presentation of complex theories and emotions while others are more graceful, playful or efficient. In crafting this series, I wondered what it would look like if all the human expressions of love were assembled in one place; a proverbial Book of Love in a fashion. As I searched for words that conveyed ideas of love, longing and loss in a unique way, I stumbled upon a couple blog articles investigating the same subject and was inspired by what I had found. All of the words in this collection are non English in their origin and while English is my native language, I find that it often lacks the elegance and grace found in many other tongues.
In the end, what I take away from this collection is the commonality of love, loss and desire. We all ache, yearn, have our hearts broken and share the bliss of love - all evident in the myriad ways we have to say, sing or recreate our inner worlds.

A Spiritualist's Statement: I have been called to offer these bags at this time by my spirits, as I have been reluctant to take on this project in the past, despite multiple requests. Apparently, the Mayans have predicted the end of civilization this year - December 21, 2012, to be exact. The gospel of the End Times has been preached long before the Book of Revelations was penned 2000 some odd years ago; the Norse have Ragnarok, Hindus have Kaliki, the Yoruba have Olokun. As time keeps bumping along the pot hole riddled gravel path of progress, we're only left to meditate on what our world of exploding population, dwindling resources and questionable pop culture will disintegrate into. Hurricane Sandy Relief - 2 Perfumes to Ease Suffering
Hello Everyone,
Looking at the devastation that is being left in the wake of Sandy this morning, I feel sad and helpless. So many people who have lost their homes, their power, their water, their lives. It's a devastation that I can't even begin to imagine.
Since I'm in no condition to travel to NY or NJ and help with the relief effort, I feel compelled to help and the only thing I can do is offer my skills and use the money I earn to help those in need.
I always have some special occasion perfume blends on reserve. Ones that will one day reveal their purpose and names to me when the time is right. Two stepped forward to proclaim that they were ready to volunteer and represent the cause.
We'll be offering two blends, HEKUA YANSA and SALVO LERI. All proceeds after cost of manufacture will be donated to the Red Cross where it will be used to provide relief from those pummeled by the ravages of Sandy.

HEKUA YANSA
Oya, also known as Yansa is the Mother of Nine. She is the Rainbow in the sky, the Queen of the hurricane, the tornado, the cemetery gates and she watches over our Egun (our ancestors). She rules over the winds of abrupt change; she destroys to create. Don't try to fight Oya, metamorphosis is inevitable.

"Salvo Leri" is Lukumi for "Save my head" In the Santeria faith it is customary when one walks pass the cemetery gates to cross your arms over your chest and salute Oya saying, "Hekua Yansa, Salvo Leri!" Or, I salute you, Oya, please save my head! In Lukumi faith, the head is the seat of the soul, or the Ori. To lose one's head is tantamount to death. A good head can save a whole town. A bad head can destroy one just as easily. Let's keep our heads about us during these trying times.

It's Goth Chick Appreciation Day Once Again!
While it might have its origins in a silly Facebook meme, Goth Chick Appreciation day has stuck a chord with thousands of Goth, (or recovering Goth) ladies out there and it's completely understandable why! So much of the year we spend fending off questioning or horrified looks from people - it's nice to have a day to be honored and at least one day a year where our wardrobe makes sense!
Last year, Goth Chick Pride was sold out in a day with many requests for orders after the fact. While I was able to accommodate all orders last year, this year, I have 23 bottles available and won't be able to take any orders for extras, so try to get them while you can. I'm going to ask that you limit your order to no more than 3 bottles per order (because I know that folks like to combine orders with their friends and that is perfectly acceptable.) It seems that the end of October and early November is the time of year where many cultures have holy days honoring death. From Los Dias de los Muertos to Samhain tide this has been the season to honor, revere and even celebrate the role death has in our lives. Using three works of art as inspiration, we are offering a trilogy of fragrances to pay tribute to the ancestors, to show respect for the power of the spirit of Iku (Yoruban personification of Death) and to the metaphysical associations that are part and parcel to the concept: transitions, inevitable change and destruction that clears the way to creation. Join us in the unveiling of this year's Hallows collection - Kwaidan, or Japanese Ghost Stories! I unearthed an ancient copy of Lafcadio Hearn's eponymous novel penned shortly before his death in 1904 and was immediately drawn in to the spooky subject matter and otherworldly spiritual presentation! I selected four of my favorite stories to use as inspiration in creating this year's Hallows perfumes and I think that while the subject and concept are unusual, the final result is something truly amazing!
I've also resurrected Madame Victoria's Mansion of Mayhem in its entirety as well as choice selections from Hallows past in the All-Hallows Resurrected line.
The stories are presented in their entirety for your enjoyment! So, grab your favorite beverage, get cozy and prepare to be spooked!
KWAIDAN - Japanese Ghost Stories Conjure Oils' 2012 Hallows Collection!
Kwaidan is a collection of stories written in 1904 by Lafcadio Hearn shortly before his demise. To say he was a Japanophile is a bit of an understatement, as he has written volume after volume on the mythology and spirituality of Japanese culture at the turn of the century.
Like the 1965 eponymous film based on the work of Hearn, we've selected four stories to give you a glimpse into the demons and ghosts that haunt the land of the rising sun and to send a chill down your spine in the process! Some of the stories can be on the long side. Grab a cup of tea (or sake!) and settle in for a thrill. I guarantee it will be worth your time!
The text for the stories is taken from SacredTexts.com (the best site ever for public domain spiritual works) and the illustrations are by Yasumasa Fujita from a hand made copy of Kwaidan crafted in 1932.

Nonetheless, our psyches still question the artifice - the darkness and perceived danger is still very real to our pre-verbal lizard brains which send the appropriate signals to our nervous systems accordingly. Our hearts pound, our palms sweat. We're startled, scared out of our wits, screaming in horror and having the most fun we've had in ages! Enter Madame Victoria's Mansion of Mayhem!

HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY CONJURE!
I simply cannot believe it's been five years since I opened the scented doors to the Little Perfume House that Could! These last five years have been amazing. I've met some of the best, most beautiful and genuine people through Conjure. I've learned so much about what it means to run my own business and what it means to grow as an artist, a perfumier and as an individual as well. There is no way I would be here if it weren't for trusting the mad idea that my idea was worth investing in and that I could count on myself to see my dream to fruition. I'm grateful I took chance. Which reminds me of my favorite quote I first read in Julia Cameron's book The Artists' Way "Leap and the net will appear."

The number five is sacred to the Orisha Oshun. Many consider Oshun to be flirtatious, a femme fatale and sometimes conversely, sweetly demure. In my experience, Oshun is a fierce warrior. While she does have elements to her personality that are coquettish, Oshun, the youngest of all Orishas, is arguably the most powerful. When Olodumare created the world, s/he could tell it was still incomplete. FOUR THIEVES
During the dark times of the Black Death, a group of four ne'er do wells were captured whilst looting bodies that had succumbed to the plague. Curious about their ability to avoid illness while knee deep in crime and disease, the arresting officers granted the Thieves leniency in exchange for the formula behind their success and thus the Legend of the Four Thieves was born.
There are other stories you can research that are more than likely the linguistic origin of Four Thieves, but they don't have the same drama and flair, so we won't share them here. Suffice to say, the Four Thieves formula has been around for centuries used as an anti microbial formulation fending off pestilence long before the science existed that backed it up. Over time, however, Four Thieves was integrated into the magickal formulary as a wash used to protect one's self from magickal attack and pestiferous people as well as for health and well being.

BISSEXTILE CURIOUS?
Once every four years, a spectacular day is sandwiched snugly in between February 28th and March 1st. Most commonly known as Leap Year, February 29th allows for the alignment of human time with the chaos of the cosmos. More specifically, it was created in the Gregorian calendar to ensure that the Vernal Equinox is as close to March 21 as possible. This assures that the Christian holiday of Easter will fall on the full moon on or after the first day of spring. This is where the curious comes in - because that arrangement seems splendidly pagan if you ask me!

PACZKI DAY!
Celebrate Fat Tuesday Conjure style once again with our Polish pastry inspired perfume oils! Growing up in Southeastern Michigan like I did, it wasn't hard to find a box of these delectable sweet treats! For those who don't know what a paczki is, (pronounced "poonchky") it's like a large huge doughnut stuffed to the brim with various intoxicatingly sweet fillings ranging from traditional plum and rose hip jam to more modern conventions like Bavarian custard, apple or raspberry. Though it's no typical doughnut - the paczki is sweeter and spongier. They can be topped with powdered or granulated sugar, or with icing. Truly, the mortal doughnut pales in comparison!
Paczki are a convenient way to get all of the sugar, fat and temptation out of the house before the sparse season of Lent rears it head. Fortunately, we've conjured a great way to get the paczki experience throughout whilst avoiding the calories as well! It's like magic! Indulge!

HAPPY 36th BIRTHDAY, VAJRA!
For 36 years now I've had the privilege of spinning around the splendid sun upon this gorgeous blue-green marble, swirling and whirling through the blackness of space. During these 36 years, I've endured traumas so horrific that I was launched head long into the weary depths of sadness; a darkness so vast that I thought I'd never again see the sun rise anew in my soul. TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE – SATURDAY DECEMBER 10, 2011
On Saturday December 10th, 2011 we will be treated not only to the last lunar eclipse of 2011, but the last total lunar eclipse until 2014! We checked in with our resident Rebel Astrologer Andrew Drobny and this is what he has to say to “illuminate” the subject. Enjoy!
“A lunar eclipse represents the tightest phase of the aspect (and therefore strongest manifestation) of what we astrologers refer to as a Solar-Lunar opposition. Literally the sun and the moon are on directly opposite sides of the earth from one another. Thus the earth may shield the moon from the light of the sun causing the emblematic shadow across the surface of the moon. Astrologically speaking the general effect is that the moon, representing our emotional state, is shielded from its source: the sun, representing the center of our beings and the source of our energies. In general, a lunar eclipse induces emotional insecurities and a very basic internal conflict between the part of us that says “I AM” and the part of us that says “I FEEL.”
A lunar eclipse (or Sun-Sun opposition) means that our emotional state and sense of self are crashing against each other and causing mass confusion. This can range from a vague feeling of distraction or clumsiness all the way to emotional crisis. The key to keep in mind is that this is not necessarily all negative; all moments and configurations exist for a reason. This is a great time to exercise intention and take the time to slow down and examine our hearts and our sense of identity. To "readjust" our solar direction based on what the heart says. If we do so a lunar eclipse can be not only beneficial, but downright enjoyable as well. Of course, if we refuse to look at these things and just smash forward it is likely to make nothing short of a mess of our emotions.
Let’s take a look at a few things that are going down right now regarding the eclipse:
Moon in Gemini and Sun in Sagittarius. This is a mutable opposition and therefore may have effects that are less pronounced, thankfully. The general effects: emotional moon in Gemini means a kind of detachment and a lack of commitment to any one idea and a scattered feeling. Sun in its Sagittarius position shows a sense of identity and attention that has high hopes, yet lacks focus. The result: you may be all over the place, a bit insecure and have difficulty making firm decisions. This is a time for exploration, not absolutes.
Mars is in Virgo, squaring both the sun and moon in what is called a T-Square formation, exacerbates the confusion and scattered energies the opposition of the sun and moon are creating. Representing the part of us who motivates and activates, Mars is stifled under unmanageable picky expectations and a lack of drive. The result is a tendency to simmer in unexpressed frustration, indecisiveness, etc. Outbursts of frustration are likely, personally, and in the larger sense as well. Translation: be very careful of your expectations. Breathe!
Summing it all up:
Relax this weekend and allow things to come as they come; stay loose. It is not a moment when things will seem to be getting done. Instead of decision making and goal setting, go ahead and explore! Playfully misbehave a little. Don’t forget that Sagittarian optimism is the ticket to all of this! Learn new ways to define the self and find new and unique ways that you fit into the world, because you belong. When this aspect moves on, you'll be surprised at what you’ve discovered about yourself!”
SACRED TRANSGRESSIONS
The Sun, Earth and Moon align in space allowing the mighty light of the full Moon to surrender and submit to the shadow of the Earth. Magickally, it is oftentimes considered a "micro month" where all lunar phases happen during the duration of the eclipse. To many astrologers the effects that happen during the few hours of an eclipse can last for years. Whether an eclipse is a time to practice magick is up for the practitioner to decide, but few can dispute the power that the eclipse brings; if you're going to do Work, you better mean it.
During this very special eclipse, the last of its kind until 2014, I will be preparing an oil to harness the energy of this most unique event. Blending rare oils sacred to Madam Night and Lady Moon in all Her lunar phases as well as astrologically relevant oils to enhance identity and sacred play including:

Jackal-headed Egyptian lord of embalming, mummification and protector of the dead. He watches over the funerary process making sure the bodies are properly readied for their journey to the afterlife. His color is black, associating him with the putrefaction stage of death as well as the promise of rebirth found in the fertile black soils on the banks of the river Nile.

DURGA
As a fierce protector and an indestructible force of nature, Durga's ability to help her devotees overcome selfishness, jealousy, prejudice, hatred, anger, and ego has made her one of the most beloved of all Hindu devas. Scottish and Irish indentured servants brought along with them to Haiti their beloved goddess and later Saint Brigid, the red haired, green eyed, fair skinned deity. She most certainly has her place among the pantheon of beloved Haitian Lwa as queen of the Ghede, a Haitian Creole word for a family of sprits that represent the dead as well as fertility - sex and death are never far apart! She is the Mistress of the Dead, owner of the cemetery and is, in true ghede fashion, as sexually suggestive, rude, obscene and debaucherous as her husband, Baron Samedi.

Egyptian lord of darkness, chaos, storms, the harsh desert and foreigners. He ruled the red desert in Upper Egypt while Horus was given the fertile Nile delta, the black lands of Lower Egypt. The two gods were always at odds with one another. Multiple myths detail the feud between the two, a conflict that is completely understandable: Set murdered then dismembered Horus' father Osiris as Set always had eyes for his sister and Horus' mother, the beautiful Isis and stopped at nothing to have her. Some historians claim that the vilification of Set was politically motivated, some say it was symbolic of the war that people living in the desert waged to survive within the environment daily: Set represented the sterile, harsh desert while Horus was the fertile lands that were flooded by the Nile. Nonetheless, Set is a darkly complicated figure who is often called upon for sex and love magic as he understands the how far down the maddening depths of love and desire can go when they remain unrequited.

Welcome to Conjure Oils’ 2011 Yule Collection, The Naughty List! Every year, we host a contest to challenge the citizens of Conjure County to come up with suggestions for their ideas of a holy grail Yule perfume design. The winners not only get $30 in Conjure Ca$h to indulge on anything at ConjureOils.com, they also get to be the envy of their friends and enemies alike! All winning entries are lovingly crafted into a unique perfume oils available for all to admire (and purchase!) on the Conjure Oils website throughout the Yuletide season, not to mention that the winner also receives a 5ml bottle of their perfume as well!
The parameters of the contest were fairly loose – a maximum of five entries per person illustrating concepts that could be as general or specific as the entrant desired. We had entries that ran the gamut from simply elegant (balsam fir and cranberries, call it Garlands) to intricately complex treatises on the origins of various Yule traditions (for example, an entry the length of five single-spaced typed pages explaining the origins of Krampus with the recommendation that the perfume be titled Krampusnacht ist Wunderbar!)
Every year the entries increase in their creativity, cleverness, complexity of design and, well, length! :D I am SO proud of the citizens of Conjure County and the community that has been created around Conjure Oils. I want to extend a massive gesture of gratitude and bow deeply and reverently before everyone who entered, who told someone or who spread the word about the contest, to all who spread the word about Conjure Oils to anyone who would listen, all who taunted their foes with the majesty of our unpretentious honesty and the sincerity of our passions. PANCHA GANAPTI
Pancha Ganapti is a five day solstice celebration that takes place December 21st through the 25th in honor of the elephant-headed Hindu deity Ganesha. On the first day, the shrine is constructed by the family as a gesture of unity and worship and an icon of Ganesha is decorated with pine boughs, shimmering tinsel and a particular magical color. Each day the God is dressed in a new color and a particular sadhana, or spiritual practice, is focused upon by the family. By the last day, the celebrants are said to be overflowing with love for one another and showered with the blessings of Ganesha.

Goth Chick Appreciation Day!
While it might have its origins in a silly Facebook meme, Goth Chick Appreciation day has stuck a chord with thousands of Goth, (or recovering Goth) ladies out there and it's completely understandable why! So much of the year we spend fending off questioning or horrified looks from people - it's nice to have a day to be honored and at least one day a year where our wardrobe makes sense!

Holiday Contest!
For the past four years now (5th annual, REALLY? I can't believe it!) Conjure Oils has offered a contest for people to come up with a suggestion for a Holiday blend of their own design. Each and every year, I get more and more stunning, wonderful and creative entries and I'm hoping that this year will be no different!
Conjure Oils Holiday Contest 2011!
Here's the contest: Come up with a name, a description, some notes, a story, an image. It doesn't matter which - you can develop the entire concept or just come up with one or two things. From these submissions, I'll select several ideas to create for the Yule line this year.
The winners will receive a 5ml bottle of their scent as well as a 30 dollar gift certificate good for anything on the Conjure Oils website in 2012 - we'll even cover shipping! ...not to mention you'll receive temporary fame on the Limited Editions page as well and be the envy of all your family and friends.
In order for me to potentially use them, all entries will become the property of Conjure Oils so make sure you want them out in the world before you submit your ideas! By entering the contest, you agree to give me permission to use your idea for production. If you don't want your name associated with your entry, let me know, ok? I'll respect your privacy. MULTIPLE ENTRIES ARE OK - (because last year I said one entry per person and it was widely ignored! LOL! You can enter more than once, but keep it under 5, just so I can stay sane and somewhat organized, ok? :D)

I'll pick the winners on the 2nd and make the scents available around November 15th. If I can't decide, or there are too many ideas, I reserve the right to freak out, scrap the whole idea and save some ideas for next year.

CELEBRATING NAVRATRI AND AN ANNIVERSARY
Hard to believe, but two years ago on the 22nd, Sterling and I exchanged vows in a humble and low-key wedding ceremony at the County Courthouse witnessed only by a small intimate group of family and a few close friends. We couldn't be happier since it truly suited our introverted personalities. From the moment Sterling proposed to me I would often break out into a cold sweat imagining myself up in front of a large audience sharing something so private and sacred to me. Now when I reminisce, what stands out the most in my mind was the moment of the kiss. As we moved closer together so Sterling could now kiss his bride he inadvertently (and rather comically) knocked off the veiled top hat I was wearing which caused a small ripple of laughter in the audience - the judge included! It was wonderful to have such a nerve wracking and solemn moment lightened with happenstance humor.
Big money (or big egos!) can create big weddings, but the ones that are the most memorable (and lasting) in my opinion are the ones with a little humor and a lot of heart - and while we had little of the former, we had plenty of the latter.
There goes the hat!

Navratri is a nine day long Hindu celebration held four times a year in honor of the great goddesses, particularly Durga. The largest of these celebrations occurs in the fall. This year, Navratri begins on the 28th of September, ending on the 5th of October. Vast altars and effigies are created in her honor. Pujas are held; prayers offered.
As a fierce protector and an indestructible force of nature, Durga's ability to help her devotees overcome selfishness, jealousy, prejudice, hatred, anger, and ego has made her one of the most beloved of all Hindu devas. Let's Get Autumn Started!
For me out in the Pacific Northwest, Summer really never got started. I mean we're now getting weather in the mid eighties, but I'm sure most of you are over the mercury broiling in the triple digits. I say, if we can't have the weather we want, we can at least revel in delusion and have the Fall season begin in our hearts and minds, right? Let's scatter the bats in the belfry and officially ring the skull bell with the femur bone; this is Halloween (the beginning, anyway!)
Before we unleash this season's Limited Editions and Resurrecteds, we're starting the season right with a blood pulsing panic: we're resurrecting HERE LIES..., the cryptic perfume that sold out within 48 hours. Last year, I made 13 perfumes that came complete with a personalized label and their own hand painted and decorated coffins. The Conjure Works - A Perfumed Temple of the Spirit
The excitement (and anxiety!) is palpable - we are working toward making our dream of having a Conjure Oils brick & mortar location a reality! We've signed the lease are waiting for the keys! Once we get them, it'll be a blur of painting, moving, decorating and setting up for our grand opening! We'll make an official announcement when we know for sure, but keep the evening of Saturday July 30 open!
Besides being the Conjure Oils studio, the space will also serve as a venue where we plan on hosting preview and release parties for Conjure Oils' limited edition collections and a showroom where you can come and sample and sniff all the products in the Conjure Oils catalog until your heart's content! You can order on site and have your items freshly prepared, pick up orders that are ready a la will call, have a custom perfume consultation and have your signature scent created just for you. You'll also be able to have a spiritual reading; besides a perfumery, The Conjure Works will also be a full-service spiritual spa where you'll be able to have tarot, palm, tea leaf, intuitive or rune readings, or take classes in Hoodoo, divination, mythology, Orisha spirituality, and other fascinating subjects from teachers who are considered to be experts in their fields.
In addition to enhancing your spiritual life, body workers, a naturopath and other alternative health professionals will be available by appointment at The Conjure Works to support your body. To support your mental health, Vajra, who holds a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, will be accepting clients for her new counseling practice!

Celebrate Fat Tuesday Conjure style with our Polish pastry inspired perfume oils! Growing up in Southeastern Michigan like I did, it wasn't hard to find a box of these delectable sweet treats! For those who don't know what a packzi is, (pronounced "poonchky") it's like a large huge doughnut stuffed to the brim with various intoxicatingly sweet fillings ranging from traditional plum and rose hip jam to more modern conventions like Bavarian custard, apple or raspberry. Though it's no typical doughnut - the packzi is sweeter and spongier. They can be topped with powdered or granulated sugar, or with icing. Truly, the mortal doughnut pales in comparison!
Packzi are a convenient way to get all of the sugar, fat and temptation out of the house before the sparse season of Lent rears it head. Fortunately, we've conjured a great way to get the packzi experience throughout whilst avoiding the calories as well! It's like magic! Indulge!
